Doc,

First of thanks and praise to God that your daughter is going to be OK.

Second, can dizziness be a symptom of dehydration? I felt dizzy on a ride at RHR on Saturday, worked in the yard yesterday and still feel dizzy today. It comes and goes, like when I make a quick head movement. Any thoughts?

T Holmes:

First of all is that you in the picture under your name. If it is, I think I know why you are dizzy.....

Seriously, dizziness can be a sign of dehydration. The low blood pressure that results from dehydration can lead to dizziness. Additionally, low sodium and low potassium that can occur with dehydration can lead to dizziness. If you got dehydrated, it can take several days to addequately rehydrate your total body. So, go easy on rigorous activity and working out in the heat for the next couple of weeks.

Now, if you dizziness worsens or persists, seek medical attention, there are many other problems that can have dizziness as a symptom and a good history and physical exam would be in order.

Thanks for your prayers for Sarah!

Doc,

No, it's not a picture of me. I just liked it.

Thanks for the quick response. I've been drinking a lot of water today and I took a potassium supplement this morning. I would think that diuretics (sp?) probably didn't help much either, like coffee and beer.

It didn't seem that hot, so I probably also drank less water.
Thanks again.
