Hi Doc,
Its not so bad as tums all day long, in fact I rarely if ever need them for indigestion.
However, I find myself now using 2-3 every night as a sleep aid. Is there harm in this long term usage?

A little side info: I'm quite relaxed, stretching/yoga daily, breathing exercises, somewhat of an organic-tarian, little TV, work outdoors, etc.
But when I lay in bed, there is this tingling, buzzing inside my body---like the ringing we sometimes get in our ears---but this is muscular.

When I eat the tums it quits and I sleep. Why? What?

Thanks, SB

Strohls Freely:

Why? Low calcium levels can cause excess nerve stimulation and muscle spasms leading to what is called hypocalcemic tetany. This can result from a non-functioning or inadequate functioning parathyroid gland. Is this what is occurring in your case? I do not know, but a simple blood test of your calcium level and ionized calcium level can easily rule out this rare problem. If your calcium levels are low, then evaluations for hypoparathyroidism, low magnesium levels, high phospherous, vitamin D levesl or kidney problems are in order.

What? I would not worry about being addicted to Tums. 2-3 a night will not cause any problems and the calcium will be a benefit to your bones. Visit with your doctor to make sure you do not have anything more searious going on such as hypoparathyroidism.

Thanks,

Doc,
Thanks so much for the info and the prompt reply.
Will look into it as I know my calcium intake is next to none.

Again, thanks!
