Doc,
About 2 years ago at the last Warda race, I took a fall , with the upper left side of my hip landing on one of the few larger rocks on the ranch. The pain was unbelievably intense but subsided to the point I could finish the race. By the time I got home the entire left leg had turned black and blue. I went to my Dr., had it X-rayed the hip to find really nothing more than a really bad bruise of the Iliac Crest of my hip.
It took about a year for the feeling of a bruised leg to subside. (Boy did it bleed/bruise!)
This past Christmas day I fell on a local Dallas trail and hit in a similar spot on my leg and Hip. It’s now almost August and the lower part of my hip and upper part of my leg still feel very bruised and tender almost to the point of having a limp. My MD says that there isn't much I can do to relive the pain other than time and that if it lasts a year and there is still swelling, then I should have it drained. Walking and running affect it much more than riding.
Is there anything that you could recommend to help speed the healing?
Thanks

Ted:
Have an evaluation by an othopedic doctor and a physical therapist. You may benefit from focused deep massaging, deep ultrasound, stretching and release manuevers the PT may be able to institute and teach you how to perform. Regular bicycling with with easy spinning can help speed the absorption of the leaked blood from the bruise. However, if the bruise has calcified it may take several years for it to go away.
