Crashed 10 days ago going over the bars landing on my back/side and banging the back of my head pretty good. Initially had some bruising in my ribs/back for a few days then it went away but I started having pain/stiffness in my left neck/shoulder. No real trigger point area and I have full range of motion. Feels like a strained ligament/nerve. Hurts most in the morning when waking and seems to be getting better slowly day-by-day. Taking Ibuprofen, applying heat and doing head/neck exercises. Any other suggestions? Expected recovery time?
Thanks,
John |

John:
If nothing is broken or dislocated, a healing time from 2 to 6 weeks can be expected. Two weeks if only bruises and no significant ligament strains. 6 weeks and sometimes more if there were significant ligament strains. If you are not feeling better in then next week or if at anytime you have increasing pain, numbness, tingling, burning or weakness, get an immediate medical evaluation. Think about laying off the ibuprofen. Non-steroidal anti inflammatory drugs can actually slow the healing process by impeding new blood vessel formation.
