|
|
Over the past six months I have noticed that after a very hard ride, I usually get sick with flu like symptoms two to three days after the ride. I am usually in bed for two days with aches, headache, and chills.
It does not happen all the time, only after races or very hard rides.
Any suggestions?
Thanks for your help. |

Grubbs:
Look at you hydration. Getting dehydrated you can have flu like symptoms of nausea, weakness and chills. The fact that these occur repeatedly after hard workouts/races, makes me think that may be an issue. If you are hydrating well (you know you are when the first thing you have to do after a race is relieve the bladder), then visit with your doctor. There are certain neuro muscular problems that start to manifest themselves initially after hard work outs and may have similar symptoms. If you are not hydrating well, keep it simple. Drink 1-2 quarts an hour (one full 70 ounce CamelBak) of a sport drink for every hour of racing or hard work out. I like Gatorade and I dilute mine to 1/2 to 3/4 strength. This keep the dehydration away without getting me cramped in the gut.

Thanks for the help. I will try and pay closer attention to staying hydrated and will see what happens.
