From Lisa Gibson on the GHORBA FB page:

Huntsville State Park MTB and Double Lake MTB Trail WORKDAYS NEWSFLASH!! We are planning workdays at both trails for this weekend and will continue until the trails are opened. Michael Walsh is leading a workday at Huntsville on Saturday and there will be workdays on Friday, Saturday and Sunday at Double Lake this weekend, pending USFS approval of trail access.

PLEASE BLOCK YOUR CALENDARS FOR WORKDAYS - DON'T WAIT UNITL THERE IS AN OFFICIAL EVENT PUBLISHED! If you want to ride again in the SHNF, NOW IS THE TIME TO ACT! Just know that workday leaders have requested approval to be on these closed trails but are having to move heaven and earth to get them approved timely.

We can either publicize work day events and cancel them at the last minute if we can't get the approvals or we can all just plan to be on one of these trails each weekend as possible and finalize our plans based on when and where we get access. Probably a combination of these two approaches is most effective.

Please note also that, without the authorization to be on these trails, especially the type of closure order that is active at Huntsville, you can be ticketed and the fines are steep. The USFS voiced their frustration at last Saturday's SHTC meeting, with the fact that the trails were being used despite their closure. So they upped the stakes and installed their signs to reflect a higher "category" of closure with bigger implications. And, I would expect they will make an effort to be present to ticket offenders during popular weekend ride times.

Currently, the Forest Service has informed us that on FRIDAY 5/19 they will elevate the category of trail closure to that which has been implemented at the new NWCC Huntsville trail last Friday, which makes the hurdles and red tape all the more challenging to overcome. We are trying to reason with them but must work under the assumption that the date will not change.

So at Huntsville we have large quantities of pavers, staged and ready for installation that we know will bring us closer to opening that trail. No-brainer for direct impact. This can be done while issues pertaining to the boardwalk are worked in the background.

At Double Lake, in spite of needed clarification and commitment, we also know of specific projects and general work that needs to be done in order to open the trail. So, very urgent activity both in the background and in tangible trail work to be done. ACCESS TO THE TRAIL being our biggest challenge to getting the tangible work done before the FRIDAY 5/19 deadline given by the Forest Service.
