Yepp, them thar are CHIGGARS! I got a mess of em, too. Them and fire ants are the only things I don't miss about Texas. There is not much you can do to get rid of them. They have already burrowed into you skin and have died. Gradually your body will push out the dead chigger carcass and the lesion will heal in about 2 -3 weeks. Your body reacts by releasing histamine and local inflammatory agents under the skin. The trick of painting the chigger site with nail polish has never worked for me. It just causes a worse skin reaction to the nail polish than I had with the chiggers. To control the itching a topical application of Benadryl cream can sometimes help. I find that taking a combination of a histamine 1 blocker such as Benadryl (diphenhydramine) or Tavist (clemastine) along with an over the counter histamine 2 blocker such as Zantac (ranitidine) works well in suppressing the itching. The skin has both histamine 1 and histamine 2 receptors that is why I take both medications. The stomach has histamine 2 receptors which when blocked, cause decreased acid secretion, thus the purpose of using histamine 2 blockers such as Zantac to help suppress stomach acid secretion. The cure (which I forgot to use) is to usa around your ankles, waste and area about the end of your shirt sleaves a bug repellent such as Off to keep them little buggers from jumping on board.

Thanks,

Thanks Doc. We were at Walgreen's last night at midnight buying Benadryl, Cortizone cream and this stuff called Chiguard. The Chiguard stuff worked really well. The Benadryl with dyphenhydramine worked well also, allowing us to sleep.

Thanks for the reply and the venue to have this race.
