So when I race, no matter how I feel in the race, my face turns beat red and it looks like I am about to stroke out, or die--even though my HR is not at max. All the pics show it & I have always wondered if this is something I can fix through training, or if there is something that is actually wrong.
Side note--I notice that when I do push ups, or lift weights I get the same result on a smaller scale.
Comments, or even speculation would be appreciated at this point. _________________ Pedal for Peace

CoachJoe:
You have a very effecient cooling system. Your facial blood vessels as well as blood vessels in the skin throughout the body dialate when you increase your body heat production to help you disipate heat. The opposite occurs when your core body temperature gets below normal and the superficial blood vessels in the skin constrict to try to conserve the heat. This is evident in pale cold hands on a cold bike ride. Your body is just doing what the good maker intended it to. You're cool, or at least your body is doing it's job to keep you cool! _________________ Paul K. Nolan, MD
