Hey Doc, Kevin Fish, age 18, Texas Pro/US Junior broke his arm in a road bike crash in May. During surgery, caritlage in the elbow joint was reattached with two screws and we were told that the body would grow a protective layer over the cartilage. Kevin was cleared to race the Windham World Cup 3 weeks before and he raced (12th). Since the race, the joint has been tight and there has been some random pain that shoots through his arm and then disappears. Can an arm recover from this type of surgery and take the beating that a pro racer inflicts on it or will likely always cause problems? |

jfish:
Have Kevin visit with his Orthopedic doctor. Sometimes the metal pins/screws can be source of irritation. There also is a chance of post trauma arthritis (inflammation to the joint) developing. The Ortho Doc would be interested in learning of Kevin’s symptoms and may want to pursue this further.
