I have read that one of the side effects of Lipitor is muscle soreness. I have experienced this at higher doses. Difficult to say whether it has that effect at lower doses like 20mg or 10mg. Does Lipitor have an adverse affect on the performance of a cyclist?
Thanks in advance for your reply, doctor. |

Lynn:
Talk to your doctor about the muscle soreness right away. There are rare complications of the statins causing rhabdomyolysis, muscle breakdown at an accelerated rate, leading to kidney failure from the break down products damaging the kidneys. As far as the statins hurting muscle performance, the data is inconclusive http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/20581676 there is an ongoing clinical trial to attempt to address this issue http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/20626664 but for now the jury is still out. Do visit with you doctor about your symptoms.
