Hi Doc,

I'm a 35 year old female diagnosed years and years ago with mitral valve prolapse, tachycardia and PVCs. I take Metroprolol twice a day...and for the most part I have no issues. I race (xc in TMBRA) as much as possible and ride (xc and road) as much as possible. I do occasionally have some "flutters" or some mild chest pain...but it seems minor.

I've been considering racing the 12 hour race at Bar H. That would be more riding in that amount of time (probably 4 or 5 laps) than I have ever done before.

My question - First - are any of the conditions anything other than a nuisance? Second - is there any reason at all why I shouldn't try the 12 hour race?

I also have an appointment with my cardiologist before the 12 hour race to get his opinion but I would like your as well if possible.

Thank you!

Mitral Valve Porlapse (MVP) usually is a benign heart condition when it is issolated and has no associated cardiac dysrhythmia (abnormal, excesssively rapid or irregular heart beats). When there are associated cardiac dysrhythmias all bets are off. My not knowing your underlying heart dysrhythmias and cause of the MVP puts me in a position where I cannot wisely give you any other recommendation but to talk with your cardiologist before you decide to undergo the 12 hour race.

Thanks,
