William h:

Do stretching exercises after a warm up and then after your race. Massage your legs as well immediately after a race. If you feel any cramps coming on during your drive home, stop and stretch those muscles again. Some times the stretch will increase the pain transiently but it will break up the muscle spasm and then relieve the pain. Make sure you are getting plenty of electrolyte containing drink before, during and after your race to help prevent low sodium or low potassium induced muscle cramps.

Thanks,
