Doc,
A couple of Saturdays ago, I spent about 4+ hours trimming crepe myrtle branches with a power saw. Since then, I have had pain in my wrist on the top side of my wrist just below my thumb and in the muscle extending up my wrist from that point. I have been wearing a neoprene brace to try to restrict the movement a little which seems to help but the pain comes back as soon as I do any work with that arm. I know rest will be one of your suggestions but what else would you suggest I do?
Thanks,
Terry |

Terry:
It sounds like you have developed some local tendonitis due to repretitive use injury. Along with you prescription of rest and compression you are doing, taking a 2 week course of anti-inflamatory medications such as ibuprofen or naproxsyn (provided you are not allergic to asprin or NSAIDS or have liver or stomach problems and drink no more than two alcoholic beverages a day) may also be of help. Another effective treatment is to find a neighbor hood kid to trim your crepe myrtles and do your yard work while you recover.
