Doc,

After the race at Double Lake yesterday, I noticed a couple of very red patches on the back of my neck/top of my shoulder. The patches have persisted thru Monday and feel like a very bad sunburn but look more like a rash. One of the areas also has a small blister. Are there any bugs or plants that you know of that will cause a rash that is sore like a sunburn?

Thanks.
Terry

tspitts:

Plants: Poison Ivy is plentyfull in that neck of the woods and could cause that kind of a rash.

Sun: Typical sunburn is confluent to all sun exposed areas. Sun can even burn through a jersey. If the sun burn is bad, second degree, the blisters are often large and develop over the burned area.

Bugs: Blister beatles. But you likely would have remembered the sting, as is a firey, painfull sting. Fire ants can also cause small blisters but they typically look like little pimples.

Treatment: Gently clense the area and cover with an heavy protective ointment. I like Corona Ointment, it can be purchased at feed stores, farm and ranch supplies stores and Tractor Supply Co. stores.

Thanks,
