Hi Doc, I did a 6-hr mtb race yesterday, & don't remember any incidents of trauma, but by my last lap, every up-stroke with my peddle or bending of my knee to walk was very painful. It still is as of today. The pain is on the lateral aspect of my knee & runs slightly behind on the bottom portion. I'm guessing Lateral Colateral Ligament? There is some pain when I push on the area & it is very stiff & sore when I get up after sitting for a while. I've got a brace that I will put on when I get home. Any other suggestions for stretching & rehab? I was going to go to the gym & do some light spinning on the recumbant bike to help recover in general from the racing yesterday but now I wonder if that is still a good idea. I'm taking prescription strength Naproxin to help with any inflammation. There currently is no swelling or heat from my knee.

Thanks!

dennibw:

Rest it for a couple of days. Apply ice pack for 20 minutes at a 2-3 times a day and follow with massaging. Then after a couple of days of this look at doing some gentle spinning, with low resistance on the recumbent trainer for a 15-20 minutes a day for 1-2 weeks, then gradually build your endurance back up on the bike. If at any time you have any worsening pain, or no improvement in the next week seek a medical evaluation and possibly a referral to a Physical Therapist and possibly an Orthopedic doctor.

Thanks,

Thanks! I'll try that. Like I said, I wasn't sure if spinning would be good or bad.

ps: I meant Lateral Cruciate, not Lateral Colateral Guess I have a little residual cerebral flatulence from yesterday's race Embarassed
