My right shoulder/back/neck area just below my trap I guess but away from the spine, kills me after about an hour on the bike. It tightens up and it feels like someone is sticking me with hot poker. I've tried all kinds of stuff... Aleve, creams, massages, lidocaine patches (don't ask why I have those), change my position, etc. I'm training for 80+mile marathons so it would be nice if my shoulder/back wouldn't kill me the entire time. It seems to be even worse when I wear my Camelpak. Any advice?

Lenny:

Check your bike and handlebar set up. You may benefit from a taller and shorter stem to decrease the load you are placing on your shoulders and possiblly bar ends to give you some alternate hand positions to use. Do some stretching exercises as well. There is a great book titled "Streching" by Bob and Jean Anderson http://www.amazon.com/Stretching-20th-Anniversary-Revised-Anderson/dp/0936070226/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1252457915&sr=1-1 that is a fantastic resource on stretching.

Thanks,
