Doc,
I overdid it a few weeks ago skiing hard with a viral infection that developed into a bronchial bacterial infection. The ski doc prescribed antibiotics and within 48 hours of beginning the antibiotics my resting heart rate returned to normal after being elevated 30+ beats over.
Of course the coughing up colored stuff subsided much more slowly.
Question; why does the heart rate drop soon after the introduction of antibiotics even though the healing takes much longer? Does the body stop fighting the infection when the antiobiotics take over? What is the correlation between bacterial infection and heart rate?

Exracer:
The heart rate goes down because the body and the antibiotics together are fighting the infection. Your body will be well below performance levels for 2-4 weeks as it takes that long to fully recover from the infection. Give yourself time to heal and get in touch with your doctor if you are not improving signficantly in 2 weeks or at any time if you have any marked worsening.
