Bike Doc,
I'm taking Levaquin 500 mg for infection (due to ER doc NOT irragating my wound around my elbow. 6 stitches, which 2 came out the next day.)
Anyway, my question is the side affect on the Levaquin. I have 2 doses left.I have not rode in 14 days tomorrow. There is a 6 hr race in 2 weeks in San Angelo that I have been looking forward to racing. Do you know when can I start training again? I am hearing mixed stories about resuming riding and the risk of damaging ligaments.

Kevin:
The Levaquin should not keep you from racing, nor should you stop taking the last two doses just to go race. What will keep you from racing is the extent of your injury that required the stitches and whether or not there has been adequate healing. Unless you are a paid pro who gets paid to damage your body by racing too soon (bad decision for pros, momentary gain [maybe] at the cost of long term loss), you life and limb does not hang in the balance if you miss this race if there has not been addequate healing. Get checked by your doctor who can assess the wound, the ligaments and joint and let you know whether or not it is wise to go racing this weekend. If you get the go ahead to race, wear some elbow protectors to help avoid reopening the wound.
