Bent Wheel Bash March 5th

Camping update.

After looking at the venue, RV and tent camping will not be allowed on Friday evening. However, Saturday evening camping is a go. We ask that RVs not show up until Saturday afternoon. That will give sufficient time for accessing the lower range area.

In the meantime, if you are already on your way to Abilene, RVs and tents can camp at Sea Bee park on Friday evening. The address is

Sea Bee Park
6525 West Lake Road Abilene, TX 79601

https://www.abilenetx.gov/Facilities/Facility/Details/Sea-Bee-Park-50

It is located roughly 5 min from the race.

Thank you for your understanding.

We look forward to seeing you!

We are excited to host Bent Wheel Bash this weekend. Buck Creek Trails received about an inch of rain last night. There is a lot of standing water in low spots throughout the trail. We have closed the course for pre riding on Friday and will be working the trail to mitigate the problem areas. As the day progresses we will assess and make a further statement about trail conditions for pre riding on Saturday.
For those who plan to camp out in tents and RVs, we will know at11:00 the status of the field for tent camping and the lower range area for RV camping. Stay tuned for that.

We WILL be racing on Sunday! It’s going to be a great weekend and the weather will be awesome all weekend. Come on out and enjoy!

Bent Wheel Bash 2023

The 2023 version of Bent Wheel Bash is almost here! Come join us in Abilene on March 4-5 for the 3rd race in the 2023 TMBRA spring championship series. Here’s a link to registration: Bent Wheel Bash 2023 Registration

If you would like to pre-order an event t-shirt, there is a place to do that when you register online at bikereg. The shirts will be available for pick-up at the registration area during race weekend.

For those who haven’t been to our event before – Bent Wheel Bash is a benefit race, so not only do you get to ride a fun course and experience a bit of West Texas, you also help support the Abilene Police Department. Their training academy is adjacent to Buck Creek Trails, and they open up their training grounds for us to use as the start, finish, and expo area for our race. The police also serve as many of our volunteer staff during race weekend.

If Buck Creek Trails are new to you, you’ll find that they offer a little bit of everything. This may be West Texas, but this is not a flat course! For the race, you will ride a 9 mile single track circuit course on 160 acres of land.

Pro/Cat 1 men 19-49/Single Speed Open: 3 laps (27 miles)

Cat 1 men 15-18, 50+, and all Cat 1 women: 2 laps (18 miles)

Cat 2 & Single Speed 2/3: 2 laps (18 miles)

Cat 3: 1 lap (9 miles)

12 & under: 2 laps of kid course (5 miles)

10 & under: 1 lap of kid course (3 miles)

*Mileage does not include the start loop.*

Want to camp out next to the trails? You can do that. No reservations are necessary for camping. Just talk to the people at the gate and they’ll get you taken care of. Camping is $20 per site for one night or $30 for two nights. All other land use fees are taken care of in your race registration price. There are no hookups for campsites, but showers are available in the registration building. Both tents and RVs are welcome. Please bring cash to pay for camping at the gate.

Dogs are welcome at Bent Wheel Bash. The police academy just requests that you keep them on a leash at all times. They also ask that you not have alcohol on police academy property. It’s an issue for them with the training facilities and insurance.

The Toasted Traveler food truck will be set up on Saturday during pre-riding from 11:00 – 3:00 and on Sunday from 10:00 – 4:00. They serve up some yummy food, so plan on grabbing a meal or two. Moose Mountain Coffee will also be set up all day on Sunday. They’ll both be parked conveniently close to the awards area.

The physical address for the academy is Warren Dodson Training Facility, 4557 East Lake Road, Abilene, TX 79601. If you are headed north on East Lake Road (FM 2833), the blue gate at the entrance will be on your right. If you reach County Road 503 (Neas Road), you have gone a little too far north.

I’m waiting on one more confirmation before publishing the fall calendar. I don’t know, the race director says it’s good to go. My guess is no not as bad as Paris.
